Bore size, rare of twist, patching material for round ball, powder type, lube for your bullet/patches. all of these things will affect accuracy and the type of powder you use and the best charge to use.Then forge you out a simple strap staple from a coat hanger or 1/8th inch wire. Pre-drill a couple of undersized holes and tap the staple in. Won't effect the value of this horn one bit! Use a little gun bluing or browning to take the new made off of your staple. The side plate went right in. I think it took me 20 minutes to outline the plate and cut the mortice. This gives you a total space of .512" that you need to work off of. Subtract the .490 ball and this means you need to make up .022" of space.
