Hi Jim, My first muzzle loader was a TC.45 seneca. Our club held shoots monthly in the summer and I practiced every Saturday. My gun liked 70 grs.3f goex,.440 rb,.015 pillow ticking,and crisco for lube.It shot 1-1/4" groups @ 100 yds. from sand bag rest. Hunting load was 90 grs.goex w/Lee minie bullet.

Stack all that over FFFG black powder. Start your charges around 45-50 grains of powder. Increase the charge 5 grains at a time until you find what the rifle likes. Consider getting a range rod for loading, use the short starter you have shown in the photo.Coat the entire circumference of the barrel in a generous area around the sight. Solder won't stick to the soap stone so make sure everything is well covered around the sight. Remove the clamped sight and "tin" the sight base with regular low temp plumber's solder. You would have to check with Chambers to see if they had a suitable replacement. Russ worked 3rd shift at a GM plant. Whatever metal the plant was casting is what he used. I built a flintlock using a Russ Hamm lock.In my opinion, for a Production gun, the Pedersoli Rocky Mountain Hawken is the "best" one out there, and perhaps the only true production replica out there. My .50 cal flinter shoots low and way to the left.I went grey squirrel hunting with a buddy this morning. He used a 36 and I tried my T/C New Englander 12 gauge with cylinber bore. I shot and killed with the first pull of the trigger at a squirrel between 20-25 yards away. The rest of the morning I fired 3 more shots at squirrels from 30...Both rifles are Investarm rifles, the flintlock is a Lyman Great Plains Rifle and the percussion is a Cabela's .58 caliber Hawken.
